Girls Fall Fundamental League - GFFLWelcome to the Becker Youth Basketball 2009 In-House program. Information concerning the basketball program is summarized below. RegistrationLeague play is available for girls entering the 1st through 6th grades. Registration is currently being taken through the Becker Community Education office. GFFL Registration 2009 Form Season Length8 weekends of play with Becker, Princeton & Zimmerman hosting multiple Saturday league games. The season will be 5 weeks and then the MEA break and then the final 3 weekends. Last Saturday to be November 6th. Game Days & Number of GamesSaturday play with 2 games for each team. Game RulesRefer to the following link for more information concerning game play, rules and league regulations. GFFL Rules and Regulations
Games HostingEach participating community will host two weekend events and assume the associated costs. These costs should be figured into the participation fee. Each town will be responsible for their own practice arrangements and costs. HOST TOWN can charge admission fees. Proposed 2009 Season - Tournament Dates & Location
Princeton and Becker will not charge admission. Zimmerman has to review the Community Ed requirements and potential costs. The last weekend number 8 will be the same as the first 7, no tournament. We will look at conducting a voluntary skills competition. Each town can decide on their own if they want to hand out participation medals/trophies. Becker will award all registered players with participation awards.
Teams1st & 2nd graders will be teamed together, as will 3rd & 4th graders, and 5th & 6th graders. At this time there will be no more than 15 girls on a team. EvaluationsEach community will determine whether an evaluation practice for 3rd & 4th and 5th & 6th is required to determine baseline ability. This is not a necessity but may assist in balancing the teams. All participates will be on a team. Equal TeamsApplications should request player height & years playing league basketball. Practices: RecommendationsDue to limited court time one of the two practices could be half court practices. GFFL is to focus on fundamentals and a team of 10-12 could hold one practice on half court. YOUTH BASKETBALL BOARDS SHOULD BALANCE PRACTICE TIME FOR EACH TEAM AND THE IN HOUSE COMMITTEE SHOULD SUBMIT THE PRACTICE TIME FORMS. Each town can handle the practices as it deems best. We need to remember that equal teams must have equal practice times and practice schedule balance. Coaches1st & 2nd and 3rd & 4th can have first year coaches. 5th & 6th grade teams must have a person that has coached before at elementary age level. BOARDS will provide equipment list and basic practice drill suggestion. UniformsColors are listed below. Numbers must be on front and back for the referee to call fouls (ex. no numbers over 5 permitted; 55 ok, 56 is not). VolunteersWhile there are no volunteer requirements at this time, it is expected that parents will assist the coaching and event staff with host tournament events. Any questions should be addressed to those board members listed on this website. Regarding Travel TeamsThis is a fundamental league and for learning and fun. The players will have the opportunity to participate in traveling teams and tryouts before the end of the GFFL. Tryouts can be prior to the league ending, but the players should fulfill their GFFL team commitment. Becker & Big Lake have their traveling tryouts the last week of September or the first week of October. Becker has 4th, 5th & 6th travel and Big Lake has 5th & 6th. Zimmerman & Princeton are yet to be determined. Each town can handle this as they deem necessary, however the GFFL is not meant to replace traveling teams. Thank you and have a great basketball season. |
